The importance of website photography and the presence it holds within the overall webpage display is critical. We firmly believe at Northampton Website Design Services the true value of these displays,  not just only to money but to the site integrity. We cannot stress that these JPEG,GIF & PNG formats as digital pictures hold such importance within a good constructed website.

Remember the saying, “First impressions and all that”. So, so important. It’s fact of life, people are just intrinsically judgmental whether it’s intentional or not, they just are. Your displayed pictures have to be right! No qualms or half measures, they just have to be so!

As your website represents you or your product that you wish to promote, it’s essential that your accompanying pictures are clear, clean and crisp. Not forgetting that the desired item has centre space with very few other accompanying distractions.

If you are about to undertake this task yourself, obviously you firstly have to spend some quality time for preparation and deciding when and what is to be photographed. Secondly, you need  to evaluate the tools you have for this task. Most people have general run of the mill digital cameras you may be surprised with a little more homework be surprised with what they can deliver in the right hands. Those of us who used to use the old 35mm filmed SLR’s will have a better understanding of the basic rudimentariness of taking pictures.  Armed with this knowledge using a good Digital camera with a good accompany lense. Yes,  good lenses can make life so much easier.  you just can’t go wrong once you have the right tools.

Once the shot / picture have been taken and then transferred to your Mac or to a Windows based Pc it’s so easy to crop, clip and enhance your pictures in readiness for your coveted website.

So, as a round up, all you need is a little patience and spend the relevant time for preparation & then execution. Once this sequence has been completed, you will I believe  have the desired results. Failing that and you just do not have the right equipment or confidence then just pick up the phone and speak to one of us because we can offer you this as part of our professional services.

The home page of your website is usually the first page a visitor will land on, a few simple rules can be the difference between the visitor spending time on your site by visiting more pages, which is what you want them to do or hitting the back button and clicking through to the next site.

The first page is your shop window so if your web design company has done their job, when your chosen keywords are searched for, your site is listed.

The visitor wants to find a few simple reasons to go further; the first is obvious but not always found.

The page should be clearly titled with an easy to read couple of paragraphs to confirm to the visitor they are in the right place and have found the site with the content they have searched for. The page does not need much more than that as the rest of the content will be contained in the inner pages.

A front page with too much information or busy with lots of bells and whistles can be confusing create stress and drive away potential customers or clients.

Finally a few images, as the saying goes: a picture tells a thousand words.

Web design has evolved over the last few years into a constantly changing beast, keep up or get left behind. Not so long ago an individual, company or organisation had a website designed and built and that was it, most of the time it was thought the design of the website would be fine for years to come.

Not true today, website design and even the way a website is now built is very different to just a few years ago, it’s getting to be a very fashion conscious industry.

Many of our clients contact me and ask for advice, usually the same line of questioning “I still get plenty of visitors to my site, I can see in my website statistics, but I am not getting the same amount of enquiry’s as I used to” The simple answer is your site is still well optimised and ranks well hence the visitors but what is their impression of your site?

They might not even be aware themselves why they went on searching and found one of your competitor’s website more appealing, followed up contacting or calling and the business went there.

Like fashion the best outfit feels great when it’s first purchased but a year or so down the line it’s not looking so good and it shows.

Good Website Design

There is only one thing worse for a business in this day and age than not having a website and that’s having a badly designed website, one of my quotes’s for all my potential clients.

Good web design is not difficult to achieve, it’s a case of getting a series of elements right. This is accomplished by keeping the visitor in mind, what does a visitor to your website want?

Firstly your company name and logo should be displayed on every page.

Secondly the website needs to be attractive to the eye using colours that reflect the theme and work well together, spending a little extra for professional graphics goes a long way. Also they want a quick to the point overview of what the sight is all about on the first page, not to long just a couple of informative paragraphs. This will assure the visitor to your website that they are where they want to be and will find the information they seek, thus leading to further navigation of your site.

Website navigation is the next issue, it must be easy to see and use, the visitor must never get lost be able to see and go to any page on the main menu from any part of the website. The website must be uniformed in colour, text type and size throughout; any dramatic change in these features can disorientate the visitor.

Other useful features for lager websites, e-commerce sites, websites with a range of products or services is a search facility.

Contact information must be easy to find and in some case’s a phone number and email address displayed on every page. User forms should be as helpful as possible with easy to choose options.

Keeping these simple facts in mind and with a little help from a professional web designer a good end result is achieved.
