The first page is your shop window so if your web design company has done their job, when your chosen keywords are searched for, your site is listed.

The visitor wants to find a few simple reasons to go further; the first is obvious but not always found.

The page should be clearly titled with an easy to read couple of paragraphs to confirm to the visitor they are in the right place and have found the site with the content they have searched for. The page does not need much more than that as the rest of the content will be contained in the inner pages.

A front page with too much information or busy with lots of bells and whistles can be confusing create stress and drive away potential customers or clients.

Finally a few images, as the saying goes: a picture tells a thousand words.

Before anything you will need to register a Internet WWW. address, this is called a domain name. It’s a good idea to choose a domain which incorporates words that relate to what your website is going to be about, example if you are selling say Italian shoes online and your name is Max then something like maxitalian.co.uk would sound good and be in fitting with your company profile, however if you registered say maxshoes.co.uk this would be the first step to getting you website found in searches.

There are a hundred or more other criteria required to be found in searches but again a quality web design company will have the experience to implement these when designing and building your website.

Hosting is also very important, there are thousands of web hosting companies large and small. The larger ones cater for thousands of website on one server therefore flexibility and service can be difficult, often with the server and support located in a country the other side of the world.

• Contact existing customers with information on your Christmas promotions and sales.
• Be sure to make clear delivery dates and timelines.
